I think it is important for all educators to remember that every single child in their classroom is someone’s whole world! It is not only our responsibility to teach each of them, but to provide them with an environment that is safe. By following proper health and safety guidelines, we can do our best to ensure the health and safety of the sweet children in our care.
ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI), the industry leader for online professional development, offers 55+ safety courses for ECE teachers.
These courses provide educators with operating procedures and best practices for keeping children safe on and off school grounds.

Health and Hygiene in the Classroom
I am currently expecting baby #4, and she is due right smack in the middle of the dreaded cold and flu season. So finding all of the ways to keep germs away is a huge priority to me. I decided to take one of the safety courses listed above CCEI114A: Health and Hygiene in the Early Childhood Setting to make sure I was up to date on all the best practices to keep germs away from my little ones.
ChildCare Education Institute’s course CCEI114A: Health and Hygiene in the Early Childhood Setting gave simple and clear instructions for childcare providers to properly keep a clean environment. Many sicknesses are passed in daycare and classroom settings. One of the tips in the course was to conduct a quick wellness check on each child in your care in the morning. It also teaches about proper sanitation techniques for many areas of the classroom. The course also shares a fun hand washing song that you can use to teach your students how to wash their hands correctly. Hand washing is the most effective way to reduce the spread of germs. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to expand their knowledge on safety in the classroom.
I strongly believe that everyone that is responsible for the care of children should know (and follow) proper health and safety techniques. I know other parents feel the same as I do, and their children’s health and safety is their top priority. I am so glad the CCEI offers so many courses that help educate teachers and childcare providers on ways to ensure children’s health and safety, so that more children will be in safe environments.
