Yup, you read that right. DIGITAL roll and read activities. We all love the simplicity and engaging nature of printable roll and read activities, but now they are available on a device. Whether you are doing all of your teaching virtually or you are using technology in the classroom, these digital roll and reads will be a fun tool to reinforce important phonics skills while practicing reading fluency.
How to use digital roll and read activities:
These digital roll and read activities can be used on basically any device with access to the internet. Tablets, computers and interactive whiteboards are all great ways to use them!
The animated hand will roll the dice on the card, then they will read whichever word list it lands on. Each list only has 3 words- then they click the done button and it advances to the next card and the dice rolls again then they read that list. By the time they finish the deck they will have read 54 words, which is a great way to reinforce important phonics skills. (Since these activities don’t need to be scored, I recommend using fast pins.) Then you can assign the link and your students simply click the link to play. Easy peasy!
Here are just a few ways that you can easily add these into your instruction:
- Follow up activity: Review the phonics skill that you taught in your lesson by letting your students practice reading words using that specific skill.
- Whole group activity: Display the roll and read on your interactive white board so that your class can play all together.
- For distance learning: Assign a fast pin, so students can simply click the link to play from home.
- Partner activity: Students can play in pairs by taking turns reading until they finish the deck.
